Logging in to AssetTrack Mobile

Before you can start using AssetTrack on your mobile device, you must login with a username and password. User accounts are created by your AssetTrack Administrator. If you do not have a username and password, have your manager go to Managing AssetTrack Security for instructions on creating user accounts.

 

  • Note User accounts are downloaded to mobile devices when a partnership is established or when a configuration is downloaded by running a sync plan. Your AssetTrack Administrator must create all user accounts before you can set up your mobile device.  This user information will be downloaded before you establish mobile device partnerships.

Using the Login form


If your mobile device has already been partnered with an AssetTrack Server, then when AssetTrack starts up on your mobile device, the login form will be presented. If your device has not yet been partnered, see
Partnering a Mobile Device with an AssetTrack Server for more information.   To login to AssetTrack:

  1. Enter your username and password into the form and tap the Login button. Optionally check the Save Username checkbox to have your username saved for the next time you log in.

Username and passwords

When you set up a server partnership, AssetTrack downloads your username and password to your mobile device from the server. If you do not know your username and password, ask your AssetTrack Administrator to create a user account, then you must  re-partner your device. see Partnering a Mobile Device with an AssetTrack Server for more information. To re-partner your device without logging in:

  1. Click the OK button at the top-right of the AssetTrack Login form. The main menu will appear.
  2. Since you haven't logged in, you should see the key icon asking you to log in. Click Tools > Options from the bottom menu.

 

The partnership form will appear. see Partnering a Mobile Device with an AssetTrack Server and follow the instructions there for partnering.

Each AssetTrack Mobile device must be partnered with an AssetTrack Server so that the device can upload and download data. Partnership information is stored in the mobile device database and includes the URL and virtual directory of AssetTrack Server.

Partnering the first time you run AssetTrack Mobile

When you start AssetTrack for the first time on a mobile device or after you have manually deleted your AssetTrack databases, the device will detect there is no server partnership information and may present the following message:

Click OK to open the Partnership Form.

 

Use the Server Partnership form to set partnership information for your mobile device. This form may appear the first time you start AssetTrack on a mobile device, when you start AssetTrack after deleting all mobile databases.

If the Server Partnerhip form doesn't appear:

  1. From the AssetTrack  main menu, choose Tools from the bottom right corner.
     
  2. Select the Options tab to open the Server Partnership screen.
     

To create a partnership:

  1. Ensure that your mobile device is connected to the network, either via Windows Mobile Device Center or a wireless connection.
  2. Enter the name of the Server into the Server name text box.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • If your AssetTrack Server is on the Internet, this is the full URL of the server without the "http://" part (e.g. www.myserver.com).
    • If your server is on the local intranet, this is just the name of the server (e.g. "myserver").
  1. Enter the virtual directory on the server where AssetTrack is installed into the Virtual Directory text box.
  2.  If your server has a valid SSL certificate installed, you can optionally check the "Use a secure connection" checkbox to ensure the device encrypts data sent to and from the server.

*Caution

You can only check the "use a secure connection" checkbox if you have a valid SSL certificated installed on your IIS webserver.

Creating a partnership with an AssetTrack Server

  1. Enter a valid AssetTrack username and password into the Username and Password text boxes respectively. Click the Create Partnership button.
  2.  You mobile device should now has enough information to create a partnership, and will run through the following process automatically.
  3.  Your mobile device will first test the connection to the server to ensure you've entered a valid address. If you receive an error message, ensure you have a proper Windows Mobile Device Center connection so that the mobile device is able to access the AssetTrack Server.
  4.  If your mobile device has successfully connected to the server, the mobile device database will be initialized. 
  5. The device will then connect to the server and download configuration information. 
  6. Once the required data has been downloaded from the server, your mobile device will indicate "Partnership successful." Click OK in the top right of the screen to proceed to use AssetTrack.
