Integrating with HP Asset Manager

AssetTrack integrates with HP OpenView Asset Manager via Connect-IT using tabular files to exchange data  with Asset Manager in both directions. By scheduling the Connect-IT scenarios and using the AssetTrack file integration service, you can create an automated integration between AssetTrack and Asset Manager so that all assets scanned and published by AssetTrack are automatically imported into Asset Manager.

On this page:

Supported Versions

AssetTrack supports the following Asset Manager versions:

SoftwareSupported Version
Asset Manager5.x - 9.x
Connect IT3.x - 9.x

What you'll need to get started

Here's what you will need before you start installation:

  • Connect-IT installed.
  • Connect-IT scripts from AMI.

Configuring AssetTrack Server for Asset Manager

To configure AssetTrack to work with Asset Manager, change the following AssetTrack settings using the Settings link, accessible from the top right of the AssetTrack web interface.

SettingRequired Value
AssetTrack Server.Repository IntegrationTabular files
File Integration Service.Incoming directoryc:\Program Files\AMI\Import Service\Incoming.  If you wish to alter this incoming location, you must modify the AssetTrack Export to TSV scenario.
File Integration Service.Outoing directoryc:\Program Files\AMI\Import Service\Outgoing.  If you wish to alter this incoming location, you must modify the AssetTrack Import from TSV scenario.

Installing the Connect-IT scripts

Install the Connect-IT scripts that came with the AssetTrack installation package sent with your AssetTrack software by copying the files to your Connect-IT server. Follow the scheduling instructions provided in the Connect-IT documentation to schedule your AssetTrack integration scenarios.

There are two scenarios to be installed and scheduled:

ScenarioDescription
AssetTrack Export to TSV

Exports data from Asset Manager to text files on disk. This scenario exports locations, users, models, assets, manufacturers and vendors which are then imported into the AssetTrack database by the AssetTrack file integration service.

The default export location is c:\Program Files\AMI\Import Service\Incoming. This location can be altered but you must also alter the incoming file location on the Settings menu within AssetTrack.

Schedule this scenario to run as often as you wish. The schedule should correspond to the import schedule you have set via Windows Scheduled Tasks. See Configuring the Import Servicefor instructions on modifying the AssetTrack import service.

AssetTrack Import from TSV

Imports data published by AssetTrack back into Asset Manager. This scenario will look in AssetTrack's outgoing directory and import any files found there. Each time an asset manager publishes data from the Queue, the outgoing directory is updated.

The default export location is c:\Program Files\AMI\Import Service\Outgoing. This location can be altered in the Connect-It scenario but you must also alter the outoing file location on the Settings menu within AssetTrack.

Schedule this scenario to run as often as you wish. Your particular schedule requirements depend on how timely you Asset Manager updates must be. AMI recommends running the import scenario once a night.

Upgrading AssetTrack for Asset Manager

There are no additional requirements for updating AssetTrack to support newer versions of Asset Manager. So long as the Asset Manager version you are using is supported by AssetTrack, simply follow the instructions for Upgrading AssetTrack Server.

If new Connect-IT scenarios are made available, those will need to be copied and scheduled as well. Instructions will be delivered  with your AssetTrack update notification if Connect-IT scenarios must be updated.
