To maintain accurate, current asset information, you need users to capture asset information in the field.  This is the first of three main functions of an asset tracking solution: capturing changes to asset information as the changes occur.

Data collectors are your , receiving dock personnel, data center technicians, field service technicians, shipping and receiving personnel, your end users, even your vendors, who you need to send in asset information for validation and writing to your ITAM or CMDB repository. 

• Vendors send newly purchased assets via electronic spreadsheet.
•  Receiving clerks report assets hitting the dock.
•  Data center technicians rack & stack servers and perform regular inventories.  
•  Break/fix technicians track swaps, refreshes and repairs.

All this activity must be recorded efficiently and accurately.
