Server Unavailable

If you are getting a Server Unavailable message when you attempt to access AssetTrack with a browser, you'll want to check the following settings:

  • Verify AssetTrack is configured to use the correct version of the .NET Framework.
  • Verify that AssetTrack is pointing to the correct application pool

Verify AssetTrack is configured to use the correct version of the .NET Framework

AssetTrack Server is an IIS application that requires .NET Framework version 4.0.x. If you have both .NET 2.0 and .NET 4.0 installed on the same server, it is important that you check which .NET version is associated to your AssetTrack virtual directory.

To verify or change the .NET version associated with your AssetTrack Server instance:

  1. Open the IIS Manager by clicking Start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
The Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager screen displays

  2. Expand your server. In the screen shot below the server is MYHOSTNAME (MYHOSTNAME\ATAdmin).

  3. Click Application Pools. Application Pools information appears in the center panel of the screen.

  4. In the Application Pools information click AssetTrack.
The Edit Application Pool screen displays.

  5. Verify that the .NET Framework version is v4.0.
If is not the correct version click the dropdown box and select the correct version.

  6. Click OK to save any changes.

Verify that AssetTrack is pointing to the correct Application Pool

AssetTrack must be set to the AssetTrack application pool. To verify the application pool setting:

  1. Open the IIS Manager by clicking Start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
The Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager screen displays.

  2. Expand Sites, then expand Default Web Site, and click on AssetTrack.
Information on AssetTrack is displayed in the center of the screen.

  3. Click Basic Settings... under Actions, on the right side of the screen.
The Edit Application screen is displayed.

  4. Verify that the Application pool is AssetTrack.

  5. If the application pool is not correct, click Select....
The Select Application Pool screen is displayed.

  6. Change the application pool from the dropdown box and click OK to save the change.

Verify that AssetTrack is configured to allow Anonymous access

If you're getting permissions error, most likely a 401 Access Denied, in your browser when trying to access AssetTrack Server, you will need to verify that in IIS, AssetTrack is configured to allow Anonymous access.

Follow the steps below to ensure that your security is configured correctly in IIS.

  1. Open the IIS Manager by clicking Start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
The Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager screen displays.

  2. Expand your server, then Sites, and then click on AssetTrack.
In the center pane scroll down to IIS and click on Authentication.

    Authentication information is displayed.

  3. Verify that the Anonymous Authentication Status is set to Enabled.

  4. To changed the status click Anonymous Authentication and select Enable under Actions on the right side of your screen.

Your change will automatically be saved.

Setting permissions on your Compact Databases directory

AssetTrack requires the ability to write files to the AssetTrack web application folder. AssetTrack does this when building database files to be sent to the mobile devices. AssetTrack Server setup attempts to add the correct permissions to this folder but may not have the appropriate permissions to do so. If it fails, you will be unable to download data to your mobile devices as the mobile databases will not be successfully built on the server:

Use the table below to determine the which user account should be granted write permissions to the [AssetTrack Install Directory]\Webservices\Compact Databases directory:

PlatformAccount to which you must grant write permissions
Windows Server 2008[YOUR SERVER NAME]\IIS_IUSRS
Windows Server 2003[YOUR SERVER NAME]\IIS_WPG

AssetTrack Server error message xxx.ashx does not exist

Main topic: Ajax.NET and IIS 7 integrated mode

If you have Ajax.NET on IIS 7 set to run in an integrated mode instead of classic mode, and you're getting an AssetTrack Server error message: The file '/AssetTrack/ajaxpro/xxx.ashx' does not exist. You'll need to check that IIS_ISSRS has access to your web site folder and make some changes to your web.config file.
